Tell us about your restless legs

Please help me build this site. Post your comments about long restless legs nights.

.

I personally wake up (if I can fall asleep to begin with) around 3 am with terrible restless legs. I’ve just recently learned to deal with it by accepting it instead of fighting it.  I’ll start to read, watch TV, listen to music or a podcast.  I then start to fall asleep again.

Share your stories, ideas or knowledge in any of the comments sections.  Give me links to interesting sites about RLS, and anything you think others may want to see.

Thanks in advance.

What is Restless Legs Syndrome

Commonly described sensations
Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is often described as unpleasant sensations in their calves, thighs, feet or arms. The name comes from compelling desire to move your body.

Sufferers often talk about:

  • Crawling
  • Tingling
  • Cramping
  • Creeping
  • Pulling
  • Painful
  • Electric
  • Tense
  • Uncomfortable
  • Itchy
  • Tugging
  • Gnawing
  • Aching
  • Burning
  • The desire to move or handle their legs.

Symptoms range from mild to severe.

When do the symptoms appear?

  • Often after you’ve been lying down or sitting for awhile. This can be at home, in a car, airplane or movie theater. The symptoms often get worse in the evening and at night.
  • Movement helps. People handle RLS by stretching, moving their legs, pacing the floor, exercising or just walking.
  • Worsening of symptoms in the evening. Symptoms typically are less bothersome during the day and are felt primarily at night.
  • At night sufferers often get  periodic limb movements (PLMS). Also known as myoclonus, PLMS is described as  twitching or kicking movements  throughout the night. If you have severe RLS, these involuntary kicking movements may also occur while you’re awake.
